Did everyone make it back okay from our first field trip to an outside website? Only one of you requested to be friends with Kurosawannabe on Letterboxd, which isn’t that surprising, since they probably won’t be updating any time soon from hiding (or prison).
This is was a pretty convoluted Puzzleboy, so I was expecting submissions to go down a little bit, but we’ve still had some shake ups over at the Puzzleboy Pantheon. Let’s take a look at how to solve this crime!

Detective Sylvie Knox claimed that she could figure out how Phil completed his heist after just looking at the first couple of movie titles. Those first three movie titles were:

MEMENTO THE OPENING LETTERS
In other words: Take the opening letter from each of the titles, then “Memento” them [flip them backwards]. So, for example, take the letters from the first two films Phil logged, Y tu mamá también and Matchstick Men, flip them around and you have the first word of the puzzle: “MY”
Following those steps, a story emerges, along with the answers to our three questions:
My confession: I started dating a kind janitor at Criterion HQ. I stole his keys and, dressed as director Wes Anderson, I loaded everything onto a symmetrical U-Haul and left for Yokohama.
And there you have it. I hope you’re enjoying your many copies of Breaking The Waves wherever you are, Phil!

This was a tough one, and these folks truly earned their way into the Puzzleboy Pantheon! Congrats to all!
