Puzzle Four: I'm Rebus!

Some original cartoon rebuses for your puzzling pleasure.

My name is Ramsey, but you may call me: The Puzzleboy.

I dictate this month’s puzzle from the palatial summer estate, La Casa Del Niño Rompecabezas located somewhere in the Canary Islands. I can’t reveal which island, but let’s just say: life here is gran.

Anyway, it turns out that the canaries here have developed a taste for my sugar-based suntan lotion, so we’re locked in a bit of a Spanish archipelago Mexican stand-off. The agreement on the table: the canaries control the outdoors; I control the indoors.

As a result, I’ve had plenty of time to draw you some new puzzles this month! Whether you’re outside, enjoying the sun’s rays, or sheltering inside tending to your beak-wounds, you can achieve immortality in The Puzzleboy Pantheon. So let’s get to this month’s puzzle, indoor kids!

You may not know the word “rebus,” but you’re almost certainly familiar with the concept. In short: a rebus is a puzzle in which a word or phrase is represented by a combination of pictures, words, and letters.

So, for example, the word “beeping” might be displayed as 🐝 📍 (bee + pin).

The cartoons below, drawn by The Puzzleboy, are in the style of Kimble Mead’s classic rebuses from The Four-Star Puzzler. In fact, our example rebus is a Puzzleboy recreation of one from the first issue of Four-Star:

Television Series 1, 4, 4: A woman exclaims "Of all places for my pearls to break loose!" She wears a gown and tiara as she squats in the aisle, nex to a row labeled "E," to pick up the pearls that have skttered away from her. An usher shines a flashlight behind her.

OUR EXAMPLE

At the top, we can see that the answer is a TV show consisting of three words: 1, 4 and 4 letters.

The answer to this puzzle is I Love Lucy.

This comes from the words AISLE, which is where Bertha Russell is squatting, OF and LOOSE, spoken by the matriarch, and the letter E, seen on the side of the seat. Put it together:

AISLE-OF-LOOSE-E = I Love Lucy.

There are five puzzles below, and you will receive points for any correct answers. So, if you only figure out one, submit it! You don’t need to crack the full set.

Ready? Let’s rebus.

To submit your answer, please click this link and fill out the form. You have until 11:59pm ET on August 25th to submit your guess. There is no advantage to being first, so take your time!

NOTE: You are more than welcome to use the comment section of this post, but this is decidedly not the place to submit your answer or share hints. Doing so may result in your disqualification.

Instead, if you have any suggestions on how to wash off sugar-based suntan lotion, please drop those in the comments— because I really can’t figure it out.
